Darrell Lea Story
In the early 1900's an enterprising young man, Harry Lea, began selling handmade confectionery from a push cart in Perth, Australia.
The business soon grew and in 1927 Harry opened his first confectionery store in Sydney, naming it after his son Darrell.
The confectionery was made fresh each night and sold out by the end of each day. More stores soon followed and today, Darrell Lea is Australia's largest specialty confectionery retailer.
In 1957, Darrell Lea invented Soft Eating Liquorice. This has become the liquorice gold standard in Australia. In 2002, Darrell Lea began exporting its unique Soft Eating Liquorice to the United Kingdom. Exports to Canada and now the US soon followed.
